Here at Green School NZ we do not provide a relocation service, but we have a community committed, experienced, and ready to support new families moving from abroad or from across New Zealand. We're here to help your family settle in to New Zealand life through guidance and support.
As you pack and prepare to leave take a look at the Living in Taranaki Guide.
When you book your initial NZ accommodation you can request some pantry basics and fresh produce to be purchased and ready for your arrival. Most accommodation providers/landlords are very happy to help.
Double check that you have all your usual travel documents as well as the COVID related required paperwork (when relevant, see the visa, travel or covid sections).
Exchange money to NZD or check that your credit/debit cards will allow withdrawal in New Zealand. Also, update any major electronics before your move. New Zealand electronics can be expensive. At GSNZ, yr 7 and up bring their own devices to school.
You may apply for your visa independently or use the services of a qualified Immigration Advisor.
All qualified Immigration Advisors in NZ must be registered and comply with the IAA, Immigration Advisor Authority.

New Zealand enjoys welcoming visitors and this is clear by the straightforward visa application process. The process is very simple and completely online. Students and their families coming from outside New Zealand will need to comply with New Zealand immigration and visa requirements and if a parent wants to work in New Zealand for a New Zealand company they will need to apply for a work visa. Green School has New Zealand based immigration advisors that they can put you in touch with if you require advice or guidance. Please get in touch if you would like contact details. If you are planning to see an immigration advisor, be sure to go to an approved advisor. All licensed immigration advisers (LIAs) are licensed by the Immigration Adviser’s Authority (IAA) to provide specialist immigration knowledge. Licensed immigration advisers must be honest, professional and respectful, provide you with ongoing timely updates, charge fees that are fair and reasonable, meet competency standards and follow a Code of Conduct set by the IAA.
New Zealand nature is unique and protected well with strict biosecurity laws. Due to this it is vital to leave any fruit, vegetable, plant or animal items back at home, or declare that you have these with you to avoid a fine. Before departing, you should clean all sports and hiking equipment, shoes, and clothing as this is another question you will be asked on arrival. For more information on why this is important and how to follow these rules please read Arriving from Overseas. Please also see a list of items you cannot bring into New Zealand as these can be varied compared to other countries Things You Can't Bring To New Zealand.
Even though New Zealand is a remote country, getting here is not hard and it can be a relatively easy process. When you arrive in New Zealand you will most likely arrive at Auckland International Airport, which is in one of the main cities within New Zealand. Auckland is not the capital of New Zealand despite its size and airport, the capital of New Zealand is Wellington. New Zealand is separated into two islands, the north and the south island. Auckland is located at the top of the North Island while Wellington is located at the south of the North Island. Auckland and Wellington are around a 4 and a half hour car drive from New Plymouth city in different directions.
You will need to arrange a car to drive from the Auckland airport to Taranaki on arrival to attend Green School. Taranaki can be accessed via major state highways including the oldest heritage trail in New Zealand - The Forgotten World Highway SH43. Or alternatively you will need a domestic transfer flight booked from Auckland to Taranaki domestic airport. You will then need to arrange an airport pick up to your destination from the airport. Please research this before landing in New Zealand.
